And We’re Off…
November 22nd, 2009 | by Craig Williams |The open Free Agency period kicked off at 12:00 AM Friday morning but it will still probably be a little while before we actually see the big prizes ink their names to lucrative contracts with new teams. The Yankees have been in and out of rumors involving the big names (Holliday, Bay, Lackey, Halladay, etc.) and most people think that they will try to operate this off-season in a way that improves production while simultaneously getting younger and increasing payroll flexibility. Early on during the Free Agency signing period, teams and players are still posturing somewhat and playing leverage games with each other. Not unlike last year, it could take a little longer than anticipated for some big names to find their home for the 2010 season. Until then, enjoy the wide ranging rumors, reasonable and senseless, that will link the Yankees to several players in the coming weeks.
