@detoth67 Ruth had the tale partially right though. He pointed at the dugout and his home run was geniunely dramatic.

Is that the fantastic Officer Joe Bolton? Why is this piece of film not in his imdb credits? This whole film is awesome history!

@deepcosmiclove No, not really. A lot of public say that it coincides with the tale that he was pointing at the Cubs dugout.

Charlie Root (the pitcher) met Ruth a few years later and said “you know, you didn’t call that shot”. The Babe said “I know, but this makes a better tale”. Root said “if you did, I would have thrown it right down your throat.”

    It never happened!

@catpedia I was just thinking the same thing. He’s so natural, he should have looked into making it in the movies after he retired from the ball game. I was expecting some cheesy horrible robot acting but he’s really gifted I can’t believe it. Makes me like The Babe even more.

Mr.Ruth doesn’t really sing here..he’s simply saying umpire

    calls to the music.

Ruth was not a terrible actor.
He was so unathletic – looking. I don’t know how he did what he did.

Fascinatingly, The Babe’s description of his called shot is just so what the recently uncovered film of the 32 Series shows, including by the left hand at waist level pointing out his shot.

It makes you wish we had better technology when the Babe was around like we do today, so every game, show, movie or song he did was recorded perfectly the way it should have been

Babe Ruth ruled. It didn’t matter if the called shot was right or not, it was just unadorned fun to listen to this!

The Babe was a natural on camera! And THAT’S where that audio track of him telling the tale of the ’32 Called Shot came from-AND the studio footage of him on the mike. Very excellent piece of history here. Excellent for TCM and excellent for WRCoe.
